Around 2011 Malcolm embarked on what was basically a mental exercise and skills refresher to put the origins of the Davey clan in Australia on a website. The result was "Sylken" named after Malcolm's parents , Sylvia and Ken.

After this was achieved, Malcolm pondered creating an active website for the Jacobs side of the family, for which two books had already been published.

Most Genealogy type software focused on the forebears of an individual (eg me) rather than the descendants of a forebear (eg my great,great Grandfather). Software could not be found that fitted the purpose  in mind. Software would probably have to be written to accomodate perceived  requirements. At the time it was considered too difficult. Malcolm concentrated on other projects.

Around January 2014 Malcolm came up with a concept and methodology that would enable the creation of a "Living Book" to obviate the need for hard copy publications. Again, at the time as a mental exercise, Malcolm embarked on the book replacement project.

By April 2014 a working prototype had been created. Malcolm decided to call the software "Descendantsee" as its prime purpose was to put into a database structure family member details to enable one to "see" the "descendants" of a given Founding Forebear.

The software has been under continual development. It is now considered to have commercial applications, not only for book replacement, but for other uses.
